This happened this evening and i feel i should write something. I met these 2 lads in front of the supermarket around my area (somewhere in the outskirts of the FCT).
I bought groundnuts worth 100 NGN from them and gave them 500 NGN. They did not even know how much change they were supposed to give me.
Then why are they out on the streets??? These kids should be at summer clases or probably learning a skill if they want to be industrious. Or resting sef; they are not older that 8 years old. People will always say that the problem is the government and i will never agree to that notion.
The problem is all of us; our orientation, our beliefs, our culture and traditions contribute to all that we face as a country. Yes, the people on high public offices could contribute their own quota, but we do the bulk of the job. 50% of us are naturally lazy. We want to make money through the fast lane, even if it is at the detriment of others.
We lack patience and diligence in whatever we do. We have this I Don’t care attitude and we worry less about what others go through. Also, the preconceived mindset of some is another issue. Some people are too comfortable leaving as paupers that they don’t want to put in work to leave that situation.
There are so many factors that if put together, can make up a whole encyclopaedia. Seriously, we need all these things to end with those that are 50 and above presently. Education can play a vital role in helping the situation. How is this going to happen when illiterate kids are out on the streets hawking groundnuts. Long story short, i dashed them the whole 500 naira. No be say i get the money sef. I’m sad.
