Originally starting off as a UK-based clothing brand, Garmspot couldn’t overcome an unfortunate hurdle — their customer base was having difficulty accessing their stylish items — and that led them to discover their true calling in the Nigerian fashion industry: online retail.
Having found that the same hurdle which hindered their clothing brand from taking off — too few cyber-spaces dedicated to streetwear retail — was affecting other fashion brands in Nigeria, Garmspot set out on their mission to bridge the gap between producer and customer.
With an emphasis on quality items at affordable prices — a rarity in the Nigerian fashion industry — Garmspot stocks the finest clothes, accessories and beauty products from cost-effective youthful brands, including The Vintage Smith, Jaxx Cosmetics and Severe Nature.
Beyond their crucial role as streetwear retailers in Nigeria, Garmspot has still retained its original identity as garment producers. Speaking with Konbini, a representative of Garmspot explained their motivation for beginning their brand, saying:
“Streetwear was a largely untapped market in Nigeria, so we decided to fill the gap and start producing clothes that we wanted to wear.”
From their brand, their website and, of course, their lively pop-up stores, Garmspot has brought the street style trends and sensibilities of international taste-makers like Supreme, Palace, Off The Wall and others to the Nigerian shores.
Along with filling the gap in the market, Garmspot has also significantly bolstered the trade of the brands they stock:
“Through our platform, we have demonstrated how well African brands can do if they only had the support. We provide that support.”
