Jimmy Carter is hospital following a fall at his home, a spokeswoman for the former US president has said.

The 95-year-old suffered a “minor pelvic fracture” in the accident at his house in Plains, Georgia, on Monday.

He is in good spirits and looking forward to recovering at home, added the spokeswoman for the Carter Centre, the not-for-profit organisation founded by the Democrat..

It is the second fall Mr Carter has suffered this month. He suffered bruising around his left eye and required 14 stitches following the previous accident on 7 October, but still showed up for a charity event the next day in Nashville, Tennessee.

He was pictured with dressing over his eye at the concert for Habitat for Humanity volunteers.

Mr Carter, who is the oldest living ex-president in US history, needed hip replacement surgery following another fall in the spring.

He and his wife Rosalynn, 91, recently became the longest married first couple. They surpassed George and Barbara Bush with more than 73 years of marriage.
