Middleweight Boxer, Patrick Day is reportedly in a coma receiving emergency brain surgery after suffering a seizure following a vicious 10th round knockout by Charles Conwell at Wintrust Arena in Chicago, United States.
27-year-old Patrick Day was taken to a hospital after getting knocked out with a brutal left hook by Charles Conwell in the 10th round by Conwell in Chicago on Saturday night.
In the final round of the thrilling bout, Conwell landed two punches on the chin of Day, sending him crashing to the canvas.
Day had been downed in rounds four and eight, but looked to be still be able to defend himself and fight back.
However, in the tenth round, the New York fighter was caught with a crunching left hook, before a straight right hand sent him crashing to the canvas.
As Day’s head collided with the floor, the referee wasted no time in immediately waving the fight off, bringing paramedics into the ring.
Patrick Day lay motionless on his back in a distress scene, as Conwell was visibly upset in the corner.
Despite securing an impressive and dominant victory, 21-year-old Conwell didn’t celebrate, and didn’t look like he’s taking his eyes off his beaten opponent.
He was being talked to, and barely smiled as the referee raised his arm as the winner of the match.
Day who suffered a seizure before he was taken to the emergency room, was placed on a stretcher and rushed to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in an ambulance.
Day slipped into a coma at some point during his time at the hospital and placed on a breathing tube. However, reports are unclear if doctors placed him in a medically induced coma to help with any swelling on the brain.
