Abia State Governor-elect, Alex Otti has reacted to the Kano court judgment dismissing his candidacy and other Labour Party (LP) candidates in Abia and Kano States.
Alex Otti called on Abians to be calm and not be worried over the judgment.
Kanyi Daily earlier reported that the judge of the Federal High Court, Justice M N Yunusa handed down the judgment.
Justice Yunusa ruled that the candidates’ emergence was not in compliance with the provisions of the 2022 electoral act.
One Mr. Ibrahim Haruna Ibrahim filed a suit with No FHC/KN/CS/107/2023, against the Labour Party and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
Acting on the suit, the court ruled that the failure of the Labour Party to submit its membership register to the INEC within 30 days before their primaries renders the process invalid.
According to the governor-elect, there is no cause for concern as the judgement is an unjust decision that cannot undermine the will of the people.
Otti, who spoke in Abia confirmed that preparations for his scheduled inauguration on May 29 are proceeding as planned.
He declared that the enemies of democracy cannot thwart the wishes of the Abia populace.
Meanwhile, the Labour Party has dismissed the court ruling as a futile exercise, emphasizing that it holds no significance.
In other news, the Abuja Division of the Appeal Court has set aside the injunction granted by the High Court of Kogi State restraining the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, from the investigation and prosecution of officials of the state.
