Sonia Ekweremadu, has spoken out for the first time since the organ trafficking case that landed her parents, former Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu, and his wife Beatrice in jail with the UK authorities.
In a chat with BBC News Pidgin, Sonia said she understood their conviction but she disagreed with the judgement.
“I understand di conviction, however, I personally disagree wit am, however dat na from very bias perspective as dia daughter, I go obviously always back my parents”.
“However, di law don take im course, we just need to move on as one family”.
Sonia Ekweremadu is currently undergoing dialysis.
The former Deputy Senate president’s daughter described her ailment as Nephrotic syndrome.
Recall that Senator Ekweremadu, his wife, and a medical “middleman” were sentenced to jail for conspiring to bring a market trader to Britain from Lagos so he could provide an organ for their 25-year-old daughter Sonia Ekweremadu.
At their sentencing hearing on Friday, the Senator was jailed for nine years and eight months, his wife Beatrice was sentenced to four years and six months, while Dr Obinna Obeta, received a 10-year prison term.
Their daughter, Sonia, was, however, cleared of the same charge.
