Nigerians are currently reacting to a controversial report of Kannywood actress, Rahama Sadau, who posted photos on social media which led to blasphemous comments against Prophet Muhammed.
On Monday, November 2, 2020, Sadau had posted series of pictures where she wore a stylishly blended dress with an open back trimmed to fit her backside.
The photos resulted in a controversy on social media as some of her fans felt the pictures were offensive to the conservative Northern Nigerian and to Islam, her faith. Others disagreed and rose in her defense.
The controversy forced Sadau to delete the photos and apologise, saying “To everyone who knows me or follows me, should know I’m not the type that reacts to anything or embrace advice from social media moral police. But my Prophet & religion is where I draw the line.”
It was gathered that the actress will be appearing in a sharia court in Kaduna State over allegations of blasphemy levelled against her after sharing the photos which triggered blasphemous comments against Prophet Mohammed.
According to a suit signed by Lawal Muhammad Gusau on behalf of the Concerned and Peace-Loving Muslim Ummah, some conditions must be met before Sadau defends herself.
It was also noted that the case against her “is a matter relating to the Hadiths of the Prophet and the Glorious Holy Qur’an and not a matter relating to the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria”.
Nigerians have since taken to the social medium to react to the report.
Rahama Sadau is an actress from Northern Nigeria. Last week she posted a photo wearing a backless gown. She has since faced online abuse, been suspended from working, and is expected to appear in a sharia court where she could face a DEATH SENTENCE…all because of a dress. https://t.co/TWCsDMOR99

I saw news flying around that “Actress Rahama Sadau Allegedly Faces Death Sentence Over Blasphemy”.
I hope that’s not true @Rahma_sadau? You don’t have to end your life in the north. God gave you 2 legs for a purpose.
— Ayemojubar 👠 (@ayemojubar) November 10, 2020
Rahama Sadau is not facing any death sentence please. In our quest for a just society, we should try to tone down the sensationalism.

Rahama Sadau faces death sentence for looking beautiful in a smart gown, death sentence for showing off her body, her own body!!! Arewa people haven’t seen the light yet. Slavery at it’s peak
— Shola (@jayythedope) November 10, 2020
The same people that carried Rahama Sadau to a sharia court for “indecent dressing” carry prostitutes.
The same people that destroyed cartons of beers in kano have Hennessy in their rooms.
The Hypocrisy in the north stinks

Take away the indiscriminate violence of Boko Haram,a lot of people actually agree with their core ideologies.
Boko Haram will read the news about what is happening to Rahama Sadau and smile in satisfaction. This is their vision for Nigeria and its citizens: a Sharia state.
— Kelvin Shekau Odanz (@MrOdanz) November 10, 2020
Rahama Sadau is facing sharia law? You guys it’s time for us to fight this. Let’s not allow it grow on us before it becomes one of our multiple problems. We need to kill it before it gets worse. Thing about oppression is if we keep quiet, it’ll grow to swallow all of us.

Rahama sadau allegedly facing death sentence is FAKE NEWS and an effort by some people to stain Islam. It is fake please discard it
— ghøst_alamin 👻 (@alamin_ghost) November 10, 2020
Refurbished ex Boko Haram members are still walking about freely without fear of facing the death penalty while Rahama Sadau may face it because she posted a dress showing her back. There are some things I will never understand.

They say Islam is a religion of peace but what the northerners are trying to do to Rahama Sadau because of her choice of dress is really sickening.
Is northerners religion different from what is written in the Quran?
— Tosin🇳🇬🇨🇦👨 (@Ohloowatoscene) November 10, 2020
There’s no where it’s written in the Quran or said in any hadith of the prophet that anyone should be killed or prosecuted for indecent dressing. Whatever the people in the north do to Rahama Sadau is entirely non-Islamic.
— Azeez Olajide ❼ (@zeezish_) November 10, 2020
Rahama Sadau was neither charged to court nor detained/sentenced for blasphemy.
What do some people benefit from spreading fake news?

When someone from another part of the world sees this Rahama Sadau story how do you think they’d see Nigeria?
Does this feel different from the stories you see from Afghanistan and Iran?— Ugo (@Sir_Fin) November 10, 2020
KanyiDaily had also reported how a sharia court in Kano State had sentenced a musician, Yahaya Sharif Aminu, to death by hanging over one of his songs alleged to be blasphemous against Prophet Muhammad.
