Veronica Bako Myomuter, a 100 level student of the Department of History and International Studies at the University of Calabar (UNICAL), has reportedly committed suicide after being defrauded of her school fees.
The 18-year-old indigene of Katsina-Ala in Benue State was alleged to have ingested a poisonous substance at her home on Thursday, August 6, after being scammed of N100,000 meant for her school fees which she couldn’t pay before the outbreak of Coronavirus.
According to reports, the deceased saw a social media message sent to her, asking her to invest in a Ponzi scheme, with assurances that she would get double of her investments within minutes.
Veronica fell for the fraud scheme after much persuasion, and transferred the sum of N100,000 believed to be her school fees. On discovering that she had been scammed, she became restless and took her own life.
KanyiDaily had also reported how a 13-year-old student of Folademi Private School in Lagos State, committed suicide after being suspended for sexual assault, touching a female student’s butt.
