Eight people were arrested by the Kano State Hisbah Board in Tudun Murtala, Nassarawa Local Government Area, and Hudebiyya, Sharada, Kano, for allegedly refusing to fast during Ramadan.
In a statement signed by Malam Lawal Ibrahim, the board’s Public Relations Officer in Kano on Thursday, the board’s Executive Director, Dr Aliyu Kibiya, confirmed the detention.
The arrests, according to Kibiya, were made in response to complaints from local residents.
“The perpetrators were five females and three males, eating in the afternoon during the month of Ramadan,” according to the statement.
It went on to say that the board will continue to conduct raids around the state in order to stop the trend.
