Gov. Seyi Makinde of Oyo State assured on Monday in Ibadan that his administration would continue to uphold the rule of law and prioritise the independence of the Judiciary.

Makinde made the declaration at a special prayer session to flag-off the Oyo State 2022/2023 Legal Year.

He stressed that his administration had never hidden its belief in the rule of law and would not deviate from the path of upholding fundamental rights and the independence of the Judiciary.

The governor hinted that his government had also been fixing the infrastructure deficit in the Judiciary.

Makinde told the prayer session that additional buildings were being constructed at the High Court Complex and the Customary Court of Appeal in Ibadan.

He added that a ceremonial hall was also being constructed at the High Court premises.

He congratulated the entire Judiciary family for the dawn of another Legal Year.

Makinde prayed to God to give the new Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, GCON, the endowments to excel in the discharge of the onerous duties of his office.

The governor was represented at the prayer session by his deputy, Chief Adebayo Lawal.
