Felix Agu and Justin Njinmah got the goals as Werder Bremen kicked off the 2024/25 Bundesliga season with a 2-2 draw away to Augsburg.
Agu gave Werder Bremen the lead in the 12th minute but Elvis Rexhbecaj equalised for Augsburg on 16 minutes.
With 10 minutes left to play in the first half Samuel Essende got on the score sheet to put Augsburg 2-1 ahead.
But in the 58th minute Njinmah scored to rescue a point for him and his Werder Bremen teammates.
The draw against Augsburg leaves Werder Bremen in seventh place in the 18-team league table.
Born in Osnabrück, Germany, Agu made his Bundesliga debut in Werder Bremen’s 1–1 draw against Bayern Munich on 21 November 2020, being brought on as a substitute in the 66th minute.
The 24-year-old full-back secured his first Bundesliga appearance as a starter in a 2–0 win against FC Augsburg on 16 January 2021.
Agu, who agreed an extension of his contract with Werder Bremen in February 2022, has only appeared for Germany at the U-21 level.
A forward by trade, Njinmah is a former youth academy player of Eimsbütteler TV and Holstein Kiel. On 6 January 2022, he signed his professional contract with Werder Bremen and was immediately loaned out to Borussia Dortmund II.
The 23-year-old who was born in Hamburg, Germany, made his professional debut on 17 January 2022 in a 3–1 win against Waldhof Mannheim.
