Two weeks ago, Divine Oduduru announced that he was starting his professional career. While that decision means he’s done with college athletics, he’s rounded out that phase of his life by winning the highest accolade given to the year’s best student-athlete in the US: ‘The Bowerman‘.
Oduduru was a finalist for the men’s category alongside fellow student-athletes, Mondo Duplantis and Grant Holloway. According to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross-Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) website, he won the prize after recording 48.8% of the overall tally.
If this surprises you, then you haven’t been following the 22-year-old’s phenomenal outing since the start of 2019. In addition to winning three National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) titles this year, he’s also broken a few records in both the 100 metres and 200 metres.
He clocked the second fastest performances in collegiate history in three different events and went on to become Africa’s second fastest athlete ever. With all these records in the bag, along with this brand new accolade, we expect him to impress even further once he goes pro.
