England-born Nigerian forward Dapo Afolayan scored and provided an assist as newly promoted Bundesliga club St. Pauli defeated Atalanta 3-0 in a pre-season game on Friday.
In action for Atalanta was Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman, who played for 78 minutes before he was replaced.
St Pauli took the lead on 58 minutes. Eric Smith whipped a free-kick into the middle which evaded everyone but Johannes Eggestein was on hand at the back post to head home.
In the 68th minute Afolayan made it 2-0 after Atalanta made a mess of a backpass with the Nigerian forward nipping in to take the ball round the keeper and tap into the empty net.
In the 70th minute St Pauli went 3-0 ahead with Afolayan providing the assist, cutting the ball back for Carlo Boukhalfa to score.
Atalanta would hope to put behind the disappointing loss to St. Pauli as they look forward to the UEFA Super Cup against Real Madrid.
The game is billed for Warsaw, Poland on Wednesday, August 14, 2024.
