House Ratifies Revised Budget 2020

The Anambra State House of Assembly, has ratified the Revised Budget 2020, which reduced the earlier budget, to conform with the exigencies of COVID. 19. While the earlier Budget presented by Governor Willie Obiano, was N143.7 Billion, the new one, which Governor Obiano sent to the House, was N114.9 Billion. The House approved the necessary reduction, at the Plenary Session of Friday, May 29, 2020.

The Chairman of House Committee on Budget Control and Financial Appropriation, Hon. Obinna Emeka (APGA, Anambra East), said that they meticulously scrutinized the Revised Budget, and reduced allocations to the Government House, the House of Assembly, some Ministries, and increased the allocation to the Ministry of Health, in view of the heavy responsibilities which the Health Ministry shoulders to contain the COVID. 19. He said that in their recommendation, if in future, any Ministry felt the need for upward review, through “VIRMENT”, such request should be submitted to the House of Assembly, for necessary action.

After the Revised Budget 2020, was scrutinized at the “Committee of Whole”, and also passed through the Third and Final Reading, the House approved the N114.9 Billion, for appropriation, in the services of Anambra State, for the year ended December 31, 2020, which the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Uchenna Okafor, affirmed, with the unanimous consent of the Legislators of the House.
