United States senator, Rand Paul, who represents Kentucky State, has contracted the deadly coronavirus (COVID-19)
Naija News reports that Senator Paul’s office made this known in a statement on his official Twitter handle on Sunday evening, March 22.
The office said Santor Paul was tested out of caution due to his “extensive travel and events” despite not showing any symptoms.
Naija News reports that the office, however, assured that no staff had contact with the Republican senator because their DC office had been operating remotely for the past ten days.
The statement reads asthus; “Senator Rand Paul has tested positive for COVID-19. He is feeling fine and is in quarantine. He is asymptomatic and was tested out of an abundance of caution due to his extensive travel and events. He was not aware of any direct contact with any infected person,” the tweet read.
“He expects to be back in the Senate after his quarantine period ends and will continue to work for the people of Kentucky at this difficult time. Ten days ago, our D.C. office began operating remotely, hence virtually no staff has had contact with Senator Rand Paul.”
Meanwhile, Paul is the first senator in the United States to contract the deadly coronavirus. More than 323 people have died from the virus in the country and at least 29,235 confirmed cases as of midday Sunday according to CNN.
