Adams Oshiomhole, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has rejected the judgement of the Supreme Court on the Bayelsa State governorship election.

KanyiDaily recalls that on Thursday, the Supreme Court sacked the candidate of the APC, David Lyon, as the governor-elect in Bayelsa, ahead of his inauguration on Friday, 14th February in the state.

Reacting to the judgement while addressing a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, February 13, Oshiomhole declared that there won’t be any government in Bayelsa on Friday, saying there is no qualified candidate to be sworn-in as governor of the state.

“If as the Supreme Court has ruled, David Lyon cannot now be sworn in as governor and as the person who has the highest number of votes and the spread to be sworn in, it simply means from tomorrow (Friday) there will be no government in Bayelsa State,” he said.

“As far as we know, the next candidate (because these facts are before court) who happens to be a PDP candidate does not have one-quarter of the total lawful votes cast in that election in two-thirds of the eight local government councils in Bayelsa State.

“Therefore, from the fact available to us and in due consultation with our lawyers, it is clear that there is no candidate that meets the requirements of the Supreme Court – which means no one can be sworn in legally tomorrow unless there is a deliberate abuse of the legal process.

“We have accordingly asked our lawyers to look at all the windows that exist in law and take steps to ensure that the will of the people of Bayelsa State is not undermined on the altar of technicalities.”

He called on not just members of the All Progressives Congress in the 36 states but also Nigerians to remain calm while justice prevail.

KanyiDaily had reported that David Lyon’s election victory was nullified because his running mate (deputy), Biobarakuma Degi-Eremienyo, presented a forged certificate to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The Supreme Court held that since Degi-Eremieoyo shared a joint ticket with the David Lyon, his disqualification invalidated their election.

This essentially means that the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the election, Diri Douye, will become the next Governor of Bayelsa, alongside his deputy, Lawrence Ewhruojakpo.
