The Ebonyi State Police Command has been asked to keep in custody one Raymond Erick, 18, for alleged involvement in examination malpractices in the state.
He was arraigned on Tuesday before an Abakaliki Magistrates’ Court on two counts of examination malpractices and felony.
The police prosecutor, Sergeant Bassey Okon, told the court that the suspect and others committed the offences on September 7, 2019, at the Holy Ghost Foundation Secondary School, Elias Odili Street, Abakaliki.
The accused and his accomplices were said to have conspired among themselves and induced one Abara Onyekachi to deliver the General Mathematics 2 examination paper in the ongoing General Certificate of Education examination in order to confer an unjust advantage on themselves.
According to the prosecutor, the offences are punishable under sections 516 (A) (a) of the Criminal Code Law, Cap 33 Vol. 1, Laws of Ebonyi States, 2009, and 39 of the Miscellaneous Offences Law, Laws of Ebonyi State, 2018.
Senior Chief Magistrate Ifeanyi Oyibe granted the suspect bail in the sum of N50,000 and adjourned the matter till September 14.
