Gov Okowa recruits 1,000 teachers

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State has approved the recruitment of 1,000 new teachers into primary and secondary schools in the state. National Daily learned that the governor endorsed the recruitment of the 1,000 teachers to accelerate the state government’s commitment to providing quality education in public schools and mitigate the effects of shortage of teachers.

National Daily further gathered that the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Patrick Ukah, at the Unity Hall, Government House, Asaba, venue of the screening of successful candidates for employment into the Delta State Unified Teaching Service, assured that the state government is determined to bridge the manpower deficit in state-owned schools.

Reports indicated that the 1000 teachers went through various screening stages to ascertain that they are qualified in learning as well as has the capacity to handle the subjects assigned to them.

The new teachers are to teach the following subjects: English Language, Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Computer Science, Basic Science, Biology, Chemistry, Agricultural Science, Basic Technology and Physics.

Reports further indicated that the teachers will be taken through final training and induction later in the month to improve their teaching skills before they are posted to the various schools across the state.
