Having given us “Legbegbe” and the shaku shaku dance, Mr Real was a pretty influential figure in Nigerian music last year. Both crazes have now died down, and Mr Real isn’t looking to go with them, so he’s enlisted Reminisce, Phyno and DJ Kaywise for his latest effort, “Oloun”.
Produced by Cracker, a frequent collaborator of Mr Real’s, “Oloun” is a lively bop that sees each artist turn their focus to God. Asking The Almighty for mercy, Mr Real looks to God for blessings, while Reminisce wants his God to exact revenge on his enemies.
As both Mr Real and the track’s standout performer, Reminisce are Yoruba, “Oloun” (Yoruba for “God”) is predominantly in that language. However, Phyno’s expectedly solid Igbo verse (and rendition of the catchy hook) offers some much-needed diversity to the bop.
