On Friday, Jidenna returned from his two-year-long hiatus with “Sufi Woman” and “Tribe”. Finally ready to produce another Grammy-worthy body of work, Jidenna quickly followed up the double release with an emotive trailer for his upcoming album, 85 To Africa.
The clip begins with Jidenna narrating how he was suddenly rendered homeless, owing to the malicious deeds of a shady landlord and some racists buyers. In need of a place to call his own, Jidenna’s world tour, scheduled just a few days after the incident, came at an opportune time.
With the tour taking the Nigerian-American star out of Atlanta — via the I-85 — Jidenna finally found his feet in Africa, where the tour wrapped up. After the emotive story, the trailer shows cuts of music videos for the album’s two lead singles, “Tribe” and “Sufi Woman”.
Inspired by this unplanned and unanticipated global traverse, 85 To Africa — set to be released on August 23 — promises to guide us through Jidenna’s experiences and mindsets in the two years since his displacement, and we can’t wait to hear the entire project.
