From NFL player to actor, Nnamdi Asomugha has been blessed with a pretty thrilling career. First venturing into Hollywood upon his marriage to Kerry Washington, Asomugha hit the peak of his career in 2017, breaking out with the acclaimed drama, Crown Heights.
Two years on, he is back with his second major role, starring alongside Creed‘s female lead, Tessa Thompson in the jazz era period drama, Sylvie.
Set in New York in the 1950s/60s, Sylvie follows the love story between its eponymous lead (played by Tessa Thompson) and Robert (Asomugha), an aspiring saxophonist who recently took reign of his father’s Harlem record store.
The pair are torn apart after a brief summer fling but are later reunited by fate, finding that their feelings for each other never subsided. Co-producing the film, as well as co-starring in it, both Thompson and Asomugha seem set to deliver a sweeping love story
The amorous script was written by Eugene Ashe, who will also direct the film. As production only just kicked off this week, Sylvie is ripe for the big screen sometime next year, but we simply can’t wait for this period piece with two gifted black leads.
