A raging fire erupted early Tuesday, ravaging multiple shops at Owode Market in Offa, Kwara State.
A video seen by SaharaReporters depicts distraught shop owners witnessing their properties consumed by flames.
“This light is too much. This is not caused by NEPA (electricity). Maybe some people were cooking and the fire started from there because this light is much,” lamented one trader in the video.
According to a local source, personnel from the Federal Fire Service and Kwara State Fire Service managed to extinguish the fire Tuesday morning.
“At least five shops were affected, although the total value of goods and properties destroyed cannot be determined until the assessment is completed,” the source disclosed.
“Various speculations abound regarding the cause of the fire. We await the fire service’s official statement for clarification,” the source added.
