The military authorities have flown HRM Clement Ikolo, the traditional ruler of Ewu Kingdom in Delta State, to Abuja following his surrender to the police.

This action comes after the military declared him wanted in connection with the killing of 17 soldiers in Okuama Community.

Sources revealed that after surrendering to the police, the monarch was extensively questioned by the Army before being escorted to the Asaba International Airport by a team led by the Commanding Officer of the 63 Brigade Nigeria Army Asaba.

Confirming the handover, Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, stated, “Confirmed,” during a phone call with a correspondent from Daily Trust.

In a press conference held on Thursday before submitting himself to the police, the monarch vehemently proclaimed his innocence, expressing disbelief at being listed as a wanted person. He stated, “I am very surprised that my name as the monarch of the kingdom will appear in the list of wanted persons.”

Denying any involvement in the killings, he emphasized his commitment to peace and justice, stating, “I have no hand in the killings, I have no hand in encouraging anybody to kill anybody, it is against my philosophy as a human being and my faith as a Catholic.”

He urged thorough investigation to identify the perpetrators and ensure justice, revealing that the state government was aware of the challenges he had been facing.

“I am not a party to this and like I have said earlier, the state government is aware of the turbulence I have been going through,” he asserted.
