A viral video circulating on social media platforms captured the protesters obstructing roads while police officers deployed to the scene reportedly opened fire.
Bright Edafe, the police spokesperson in Delta State, confirmed the incident in a post on Twitter, stating that the protest erupted on Monday morning.
Edafe explained that the dispute between the protesters and the task force escalated, leading to the unfortunate deaths of two people.
He said, “There was a violent protest this morning by Okada riders who had an issue last night with the state task force that led to the death of two persons.
“They mobilized in their numbers this morning destroying properties and beating people, hence our men were deployed to control the situation before it turned into something else.”
