The Senate on Wednesday, February 21, kicked against the removal of electricity subsidy and plans by the Ministry of Power to approve the proposed hikes in electricity tariff by distribution companies.
The upper chamber said that the government, rather than increasing electricity tariffs, should focus on electricity generation and distribution.
The resolution of the Senate followed its consideration and approval of a motion titled: “Planned increase in electricity tariff and arbitrary billing of unmetered customers by Distribution Companies (DisCos)”.
The motion was sponsored by a Senator representing the Adamawa Central zone, Aminu Iya Abbas (PDP).
