Sarah Ajose-Adeogun, also known as Madam Sarah, an Aide to Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has dumped his government.

The Special Adviser on Strategy, Performance, and Project Monitoring to Edo Governor Obaseki, has officially resigned from her position. In a Facebook post, she affirmed her departure with the words, “I came, I saw, and I conquered,” marking the end of her role as an adviser to Obaseki.

Reports from Benin suggest that the resignation of the high-ranking aide may be linked to the ongoing power struggles and challenges within the outgoing Obaseki-led government. The office of Ajose-Adeogun had previously faced closure by the Chief of Staff to Edo Governor, Osaigbovo Iyoha. This incident reportedly occurred because the former senior official of Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (SPDC) allegedly declined to give up her seat on a commercial flight for Governor Obaseki.

Madam Sarah’s resignation follows closely after the departure of Andrew Okungbowa, the former Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to Governor Obaseki, who resigned just over a month ago. The political landscape in Edo is currently marked by conflicts and power dynamics, especially concerning the succession plans for Governor Obaseki, whose second term is set to conclude on November 12, 2024.

Tensions have risen between Obaseki and his Deputy, Comrade Philip Shaibu, who aims to succeed him. The Governor is reportedly supporting Lagos-based lawyer Asue Ighodalo, leading to a complex web of disagreements within the ruling party, PDP’s Legacy Coalition, and other party members.

Chief Dan Orbih, the National Vice Chairman, South-South of the PDP, and the immediate past Edo Chairman of PDP, have publicly expressed opposition to Ighodalo’s potential succession.
