SaharaReporters reports that some officers of the Nigeria Police Force who were promoted from the rank of sergeants to inspectors in 2019 have cried out.

They lamented the nonpayment of their three months promotion arrears.

The aggrieved police officers told SaharaReporters that they were promoted to Inspector II in October 2019, took confirmation examinations, and passed.

According to them, two years later, they were promoted to Inspector I, and their promotion was contained in the former Inspector General, Usman Alkali’s signal released in January 2022.

One of the officers who spoke on condition of anonymity said, “According to the letter or ‘signal’, we were promoted to senior inspectors equivalent to grade level 8 in the federal civil service on October 23, 2021.

“To this end, we are entitled to at least arrears of three months – November, December 2021 and January 2022.

“But the payment of the promotion began in February 2022 and till now, no explanation has been given to us about the skipping of November, December of 2021 and January of 2022, amounting to about N120,000.

“The police can’t say we aren’t entitled to those three months they skipped and if we are not, they should at least explain in detail why we should not be paid for those three months when their own signal implies that we are so entitled to those skipped months.”

The officers called on the police authorities and President Bola Tinubu-led Nigerian government to release “our due entitlements.”

Efforts to reach the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, for comment were unsuccessful as he did not answer his call nor reply to a text message sent to him.
