The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed an appeal by Ikie Aghwarianovwe, a governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), seeking the disqualification Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State from the 2023 governorship election for lacking in merit.
The Supreme Court judges in a unanimous judgement by Justice Emmanuel Agim, declared that Aghwarianovwe failed to prove his case beyond a reasonable doubt.
Justice Agim stated that the mere fact that there were differentials in names does not amount to falsity. He maintained that an error in the date of birth in a certificate not shown evidentially to emanate from the respondent cannot amount to falsity.
The Supreme Court judges, therefore, awarded N3 million costs against Ikie Aghwarianovwe, to be paid each to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Governor Oborevwori.
