Emefiele: DSS uncovers planned campaign of calumny against FG, details emerge

• Amid the detention of suspended CBN boss Godwin Emefiele, the DSS says it has uncovered some plots to stage campaigns of calumny against the government
• The DSS released a statement to this effect on Saturday, June 17, noting that such an attempt would not be allowed to hold
• The statement also confirmed that Emefiele had been allowed to see his doctor and lawyer even before a court order

FCT, Abuja – The Department of State Security (DSS) has identified persons and groups planning to stage campaigns of calumny against it and the Federal Government over the suspension and subsequent investigation of Mr Godwin Emefiele.

A statement issued on Saturday, June 17, by the spokesperson of the Service, Dr Peter Afunanya, says the groups intend to gather at different points in Abuja and Lagos with placards depicting the Service and the Federal Government in a bad light as well as calling for the immediate release of Emefiele.

The Service, therefore, warns those behind this plot to desist forthwith.

Meanwhile, the Service says it has granted the family of Emefiele, medical officials, and appropriate persons access to him right from the day he was taken in and obtained a court order to do so

The Service implements Standards and Operating Procedures on Suspect Handling and Investigation professionally.

Emefiele had access to family, doctor, DSS claims

Meanwhile, the DSS also confirmed that Emefiele had seen his family and doctor even before the Federal High Court, sitting in Maitama-Abuja, gave its directives about the situation.

The DSS said:

“It is instructive to state that the Service had granted the family of Emefiele, medical officials, and appropriate persons access to him, right from the day he was taken in and long before the court order requesting so.”

Meanwhile, the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, was taken into custody by Nigeria’s secret police, the Department of Security Service (SSS).

A few days later, a video was trending on some social media platforms, including WhatsApp, claiming that money was found in Emefiele’s house after his arrest.

Emefiele had been suspended by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday, June 9, 2023, sequel to the ongoing investigation of his office.
