Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State visited several markets and places within the state on Monday.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that this is to ensure compliance with his recent decision to abolish the weekly sit-at-home protest held every Monday.

As previously announced by Governor Mbah, the sit-at-home order was officially lifted starting on Monday, June 6, 2023. The governor had expressed his determination to put an end to these restrictions, and on Sunday, he issued a stern warning that schools, markets, and transportation services that failed to resume operations on Mondays would face potential closure.

Despite the government’s ban on the “illegal sit-at-home,” residents of Enugu city and its surrounding areas continued to observe the Monday protest, defying the state government’s directive.

Governor Mbah, however, took to his Twitter handle to share photos and a video of his visit to various parts of the city, where he monitored the level of compliance with the government’s order to end the Monday sit-at-home.

In his tweet, he urged the people of Enugu to resume their daily activities and emphasised the importance of revitalising the economy rather than allowing it to suffer.

Today, I went around Enugu metropolis to encourage our people to come out and engage in their various businesses,” Governor Mbah stated. “Ndi Enugu will no longer sit at home on Mondays, the first working day of the week. We must not endorse the crippling of our economy but must work together to ensure its revival.”
