Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State on Monday held a meeting with leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to dialogue on the planned national strike scheduled for Wednesday, attempting to persuade the Organised Labour to avert the planned strike.
Governor Sani, at the dialogue table, suggested a collaborative approach between the Organised Labour and the government to finding solutions towards alleviating the hardship caused by the removal of fuel subsidy by the federal government on Nigerian citizens.
The governor disclosed the constitution of a joint committee, which include representatives from the government, Nigeria Labour Congress, and other stakeholders to explore alternative measures to mitigate the impact of the subsidy removal on the people.
The NLC is protesting the removal of petrol subsidy by President Bola Tinubu in May without ensuring the operation of functional refineries in the country.
NUPENG, an affiliate of the NLC, had warned that the federal government cannot remove petrol subsidy without functional refineries to process crude oil for domestic consumption in Nigeria.
