Minister of State for Aviation, Hadi Sirika, has said that Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu will be shut down due to ‘security’ reasons.
Sirika disclosed this yesterday at a stakeholder’s forum in Lagos, saying the airport will be degraded for international operations because the runway length is not ideal for such.
The minister also announced that security challenges at the airport include bad runway, wrong location of the state’s radio mast and closeness to a market.
This is as he noted that the market, television masts and free trade zone must be relocated for the airport to be fit for safe flights.
