Not less than 16 persons lost their lives on Friday night in a ghastly motor crash, involving three commercial vehicles in Tinqui Village, on Dambatta-Daura road, Kano State, while travelling to Daura in Katsina State.
A Chieftain of the community, Wakilin Garun Dambatta, Mohammed Jamiu Dambatta, who confirmed the accident to newsmen, said 17 persons were involved in the accident, which includes 14 males and three females.
According to him, while 14 persons died on the spot, two of three injured persons subsequently died in the hospital.
However, he attributed the accident to over speeding, adding that shortly after the incident, security operatives, including some Federal Road Safety Corps Marshal officials rushed the victims to the Murtala Mohammed Specialist hospital.
Also, all the dead have been deposited to the morgue.
A source at the hospital, who also confirmed that 14 persons were confirmed dead on arrival, added that the remaining three injured victims were unconscious, as at the time of filing this report.
When contacted, Spokesman of the FRSC, Kabiru Ibrahim Daura, who confirmed the incident, said, N500,000 cash was also recovered at the scene of the crash.
