The Trade Union Congress (TUC), Ekiti State Chapter, has berated the government and petroleum marketers for the sale of petroleum products above the pump price in most of the filing stations in Ekiti State.

The Guardian checks revealed that most of the filing stations in the state sell fuel above the N162 per litre as approved by the authority and in some cases sell for N250 per litre.

In a statement in Ado-Ekiti, the State Chairman of the Congress, Olusola Adigun, charged the marketers to consider the interest of the workers, the ordinary people who need to move daily and the artisans whose daily survival is determined by the products.

Adigun also appealed to the petrol marketers to stop hoarding the fuel in the interest of the people, particularly the masses who do not have alternative source.

The TUC chairman reminded the government that by the provision of Section 14, sub-section 2b, which makes” security and welfare of the people the primary responsibility of government,” those in authority are bound to protect the people from exploitation of any kind.
