Just over a week ago, our favourite feminist platform in music, Femme, held their second-ever concert, an enchanting showcase of female talent, thanks to the voices of Tems, Dami Oniru, Solis and GoodGirl LA.
All four performances were nothing short of phenomenal, but when GoodGirl LA’s powerful vocals filled the expanse, we immediately felt compelled to discover her music further.
Born Euphemia Runyi Ekumah, GoodGirl LA had a childhood surrounded by music. Growing up on Britney Spears, Michael Jackson, CeCe Winans and, of course, Beyoncé, GoodGirl LA was inspired by these varying artists to cultivate a career of her own.
Channeling different elements from each of her sonic inspirations — whether it’s CeCe Winans’ energetic vocal delivery or Beyoncé’s ability to glide between genres — Ekumah set out to form a unique sound of her own.
Now known as GoodGirl LA, this beautiful singer is an afro-fusion talent, noted for her uniquely soulful sound. LA’s distinctly deep vocals are powerful and magnetic, drawing listeners into the restless romances she conveys on her tracks.
Her latest release, “Bless Me” is a spiritual single, upon which she asks God to bless her with financial gain. The bare beat for “Bless Me” is made up of compelling keys and vibrant strings, allowing her stunning vocals to shine through.
The music video for “Bless Me”, directed by Uche, has just been released, and it illustrates the glow-up she prays to God for — depicting her journey from preparing for a shoot to enchantingly dancing in a glamorous gown.
From her afro-reggae single, “Jofunmi” to the soulful “Bless Me”, GoodGirl LA lends her robust vocals to a number of different genres, doing justice to whatever she tries. Give the fast-rising GoodGirl LA a shot, and she’ll surely blow you away.
