At Konbini Nigeria, we love discovering and sharing great music with each other (and jamming to our newfound favourites all day long).

But instead of just selfishly sharing these songs amongst ourselves alone, we’ve decided to create a list of all the newly released albums and EPs that have caught our attention, stolen our hearts and are constantly on repeat on our devices.

Last month, we highlighted some great albums and EPs — from Ariana Grande’s fantastic thank u, next to Timaya’s hit-heavy Chulo Vibes. Now, we are back to celebrate some March 2019 projects we think you’ll love as much as we do.

GREY Area by Little Simz

On GREY Area, the third studio album from Simbi Ajiakwo (aka Little Simz), the ferocious British-Nigerian rapper reminds us why Kendrick Lamar once called her “the illest doing it right now”, unleashing some of the most confident and vulnerable tracks of her impressive career.

Standout Tracks: “Selfish”, “Boss” and “Venom”.

PSYCHODRAMA by Dave

With his unflinching debut album, PSYCHODRAMA, South London rising star, Dave has delivered a project that will surely go down as one of the year’s most affecting and poignant rap releases — propped up by complex, weighty themes and brilliant, introspective lyrics.

Standout Tracks: “Lesley”, “Location” and “Black”.

When I Get Home by Solange

Following 2016’s A Seat At The Table, the album that confirmed her place in the music industry, Solange’s fourth full-length release, When I Get Home finds the r&b star doubling down on her eccentricities, and the result is the most creatively ambitious project of the year so far.

Standout Tracks: “Binz”, “Stay Flo” and “Almeda”.

Rapture by Koffee

Since the runaway success of her first two singles, “Toast” and “Throne”, Jamaican singer, Koffee has been widely regarded as one of reggae’s most promising newcomers, and with the release of her self-assured debut EP, Rapture, she more than solidifies that claim.

Standout Tracks: “Toast”, “Blazin” and “Raggamuffin”.

Sucker Punch by Sigrid

Bristling with warmth and optimism, Sucker Punch — the debut album from one of pop music’s most authentic new voices, Sigrid — confirms what we’ve been suspecting for the past two years: The Norwegian singer-songwriter couldn’t craft a bad song even if she tried.

Standout Tracks: “Mine Right Now”, “In Vain” and “Don’t Kill My Vibe”.

WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO? by Billie Eilish

From her androgynous style to her eerie music videos, Billie Eilish has been subverting conventions since she burst onto the scene three years ago, and now, with the release of her hypnotic debut album, the 17-year-old reconfirms that there are very few pop stars as original as she is.

Standout Tracks: “bury a friend”, “you should see me in a crown” and “my strange addiction”.

Chapter One by Falana

With Falana’s aptly titled sophomore EP, Chapter One, the acclaimed singer-songwriter — whose debut EP still ranks as one of the most accomplished Nigerian projects of the past decade — returns from a four-year hiatus with a more distinct sound and even tighter lyrics.

Standout Tracks: “Repeat”, “Get Up” and “Ride Or Die”.

Gemini by Tay Iwar

Although he’s been excelling as both a producer and a recording artist for years now, Tay Iwar remains one of Nigeria’s most frustratingly lowkey talents, but with his debut album, Gemini — a 16-track masterclass — his star feels destined to rise astronomically.

Standout Tracks: “Monica”, “Utero”, “How” and “DON’T KNOW”.

Love Is Contagious by WurlD

On WurlD’s second body of work, Love Is Contagious — a nine-track project that thoughtfully explores both the joy and heartache that typically comes with falling in love — the singer-songwriter confirms he is one of the most talented Nigerian stars working today.

Standout Tracks: “Show You Off”, “Contagious” and “Paranoid”.

Rap or Go to the League by 2 Chainz

While Rap or Go to the League, 2 Chainz’s strongest body of work to date, features guest appearances from a host of scene-stealing stars — from Kendrick Lamar to Ariana Grande — the veteran rapper still manages to come out as the album’s most memorable player.

Standout Tracks: “Forgiven”, “Sam”, “Rule The World” and “I Said Me”.
