Tomi Thomas & Kida Kudz Team Up For GMK's Laid-Back Single, 'Call On Me'

A couple of months ago, we spotlighted one of the most versatile musical minds working right now, sound engineer GMK, who also produces, sings and raps. 

In his correspondence with Konbini, GMK announced that he is currently working on two bodies of work: a vocal project and a producer’s tape. Today, he’s out with his first single off the latter, “Call On Me“, for which he enlisted Tomi Thomas and Kida Kudz.

“Call On Me” begins with moody sustained notes, held through Tomi Thomas’ musical musings, before the dynamic artist breaks out into song. On Tomi Thomas’ riveting opener, he reaches out to a lost lover, suggesting they meet up to reconnect — for the night, of course.

On this easygoing tune, Tomi Thomas takes the lead, flaunting his versatility as he brings a variety of different musical tastes to the track. Kida Kudz comes up only briefly on the song’s second verse, using his lines to assert that he is a dedicated lover, and certainly not a Yoruba demon. 

For the chorus, GMK’s laid-back beat is given more room to shine, as Tomi Thomas simply repeats the lyrics “call on me”, which are accompanied by distorted bars that act to emphasise GMK’s skill. “Call On Me” serves as a solid introduction to what is to come on GMK’s debut project.
