2018 was undoubtedly Burna Boy‘s year, as he kicked things off with his game-changing mixtape, Outside, and closed out the year with the Zlatan-assisted “Killing Dem”. Another one of his 2018 highlights was the fantastic “Gbona“, which just got refixed by up-and-comer, Teffy.
Teffy started out the year with his solid EP, 24, which featured some of our alte faves, such as BOJ, Teezee and Ajebutter. Seamlessly merging afropop and trap, it’s clear that he’s one to watch, and he’s cemented this with his impressive refix of “Gbona”.
Given that we’re all huge fans of Burna Boy, and we haven’t gotten any new music from him this year, we’re very welcoming of anything that’s even slightly adjacent to his sound. For a freestyle, this refix is lyrically astute, and could definitely hold a candle to the original.
While the original song sees Burna bragging about his status at the top, Teffy turns his refix into a love song, singing about how his lover is as hot as the title suggests. This has definitely put Teffy on our radar, and we’re going to be looking out for what he does next.
Until then, listen to the freestyle right here:
