Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has shutdown public and private schools in the state indefinitely due to the ongoing protest against the extrajudicial activities of the now-defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).
KanyiDaily had reported that there is an ongoing #EndSARS protest across the country against the SARS tactical unit of the Nigerian Police Force over its brutality, illegal arrest, extortion, extra-judicial killings, among others.
In a statement issued by the commissioner for education, Folasade Adefisayo, the governor directed all students in public and private schools to stay at home until further notice.
“The Lagos State Government has directed all pupils/students in public and private schools to stay at home following the tension generated by the anti-SARS protests.
“A new date of resumption for all classes will be announced as soon as possible,” the statement reads.
Adefisayo, however, advised parents to keep an eye on their wards and not allow them to be used as willing tools in the hands of those who might want to hijack the protests to unleash mayhem on the society.
The commissioner also encouraged schools to utilize other means of distance teaching and learning i.e radio, television and online media as they have been doing during and post the recent COVID-19 lockdown.
This is coming one month after Lagos State Government had ordered all schools to resume for the new 2020/2021 academic session following their closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
