For the past couple of months, Nigeria‘s brightest creative minds have been doling out politically-charged content — from Falz’s Moral Instruction to the star-studded “Not For Sale” — using their influence to encourage the masses to participate in the upcoming general elections.
Less than a week away from this keenly anticipated day, co-producer Lala Akindoju and her team have released the first official trailer for their upcoming political drama, 4th Republic.
Directed by Ishaya Bako (Road to Yesterday, Royal Hibiscus Hotel), 4th Republic follows the story of Mabel King, a gubernatorial candidate who successfully powers through a marred election to be sworn in as the first female governor.
Plagued by nightmares of the violence that ensued during the tumultuous campaign period, King (played by Kate Henshaw) sets up a tribunal to uncover what went wrong, seeking justice through two key witnesses.
The trailer shows King’s citizens holding their politicians accountable, as it depicts the persistence of the tribunal in finding justice, as well as the dangers the witnesses go through as Governor King and her opposing candidate race to convince them to testify on their behalf.
Alongside Kate Henshaw, the movie also stars a bunch of talented Nollywood actors, including Enyinna Nwigwe, Linda Ejiofor, Yakubu Mohammed, Bimbo Manuel and more. The trailer confirms the film will hit cinemas in April, and we cannot wait to see it.
