The suspects
Police detectives have arrested two members of a robbery gang who specialized in terrorising residents of Lekki area of Lagos State.
The suspects met their waterloo shortly after robbing two residents; the police went after them, apprehended them and recovered the loot.
P.M.EXPRESS reports as was disclosed by the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Bala Elkana, on behalf of the Lagos State Commissioner of Police.
He said that the suspects, Adebayo Ayomide and Isaac David were arrested by a team of detectives led by the Divisional Police Officer, Maroko Police Station, CSP Isah Abdulmajid.
The team had embarked on crime prevention patrol along Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge around 9pm on Saturday, March 9, 2019.
Elkana explained that in the course of their duty, they came in contact with two young women, Gbemi and Hannah, who appeared to be panicking. Upon questioning, they explained to the team that they had just been dispossessed of their phones by the suspects at gunpoint. They then pointed at the direction through which the bandits escaped on a motorcycle after robbing them and the police gave them a hot chase.
The police team tracked down the suspects and upon searching them, their operational single-barreled gun, a cutlass and the phones were found on them. The items were recovered and the criminals taken into custody.
DSP Elkana said that in their confessional statements, the suspects owned up to belonging to a syndicate that had been terrorising Lekki and its environs.
While commending the police team for a swift response to the crime and the eventual arrest of the perpetrators, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Zubairu Muazu mni, directed that the case be transferred to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Command for further investigation.
The CP assured residents of the state of the Command’s commitment to securing lives and property in every nook and cranny of the state.
He warned criminal-minded individuals to either change their ways or face the full weight of the law.
