Immobile Feels ‘Crazy’ Beating Lewandowski, Ronaldo, Messi To The European Golden Shoe

Lazio striker Ciro Immobile Feels on top of the world as he celebrates finishing tops and set to receive the 2019/2020 European Golden Shoe award, ahead of Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski, Juventus’ Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi of Barcelona.

The Golden Shoe is awarded to the highest goal scorer in the top European Leagues every season. European Sports Media (ESM) took over as the organisers of the award from L’Équipe magazine in 1996-97 Season.

Immobile netted 36 Serie A goals for Lazio in the the 2019/20 campaign, two better than Lewandowski’s 34 in the Bundesliga for Bayern Munich. Four-time winner of the award, Ronaldo scored 31 Serie A goals for Juventus’, while six-time winner, Messi, bagged 25 Laliga Santander goals for Barcelona.

“It’s crazy, me in front of Ronaldo and Lewandowski. If I reread the roll of honour, I almost don’t believe it: Messi, Messi, (Luis) Suarez, Ronaldo, Ronaldo, Messi, Messi,
Ronaldo, Messi,” Immobile told Corriere dello Sport.

“I interrupted the Leo-Cristiano duet. For this I thanked the [Lazio] team, it was the least I could do.”

Immobile’s award-winning 36 goals include 14 scored from spot-kicks. And the 30 year old Italy International does not regret taking most of the penalty kicks awarded to Lazio. Twice he did let teammates to take 12-yard kick. While Luis Alberto converted against Udinese, Felipe Caicedo missed his kick against Fiorentina.

“None. I did what had to be done.
If I hadn’t behaved like this I wouldn’t have reached the record figure. The locker room, its equilibrium is the most important thing. They are very thin threads and they must never be broken,” Immobile said of his 14 goals from penalty kicks.

Lewandowski scored five times from spot kicks in his 34 Bundesliga goals haul, while 12 out of Ronaldo’s 31 Serie A goals came from the spot. Messi also netted five goals from the spot which Made up his 25 Laliga Santander goals for Barca.
