Liverpool Football Club have been officially crowned Premier League champions to end their 30-year wait for the title.

Following Thursday night’s 4-0 demolition of Crystal Palace at Anfield, Jurgen Klopp‘s side required just two points to secure the title following a stunning 2019/20 season with 28 wins from 31 games so far.

Manchester City needed to beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, but a 2-1 defeat means that Liverpool’s long wait is over without even having to kick a ball – and fans are at Anfield to celebrate tonight.

Liverpool, a team which had previously won 18 league titles but none since 1990, has now won the English Premier League for the first time after 30 years, taking it to within one title of equaling Manchester United’s record of 20 first division titles.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Klopp described winning the title as “absolutely incredible.”

“I have no words. It’s unbelievable. Much more than I ever thought would be possible,” he said. “Becoming champions with this club is absolutely incredible. It is an incredible achievement of my players … and a pure joy for me to coach them.”

Though lockdown restrictions are easing in England, Liverpool fans will not be able to celebrate as they had anticipated a few months ago.

A number of supporters gathered outside Anfield to rejoice in their team’s historic achievement while thanking Chelsea for handing the title over to them after the final whistle blew in Stanford Bridge.

The Red’ title success is the 19th in the club’s history, moving them one behind Manchester United’s English record.

Liverpool will take to the field for the first time as champions next  weekThursday, when they travel to Man City.
