The World Health Organization (WHO) warned that the spread of the Pandemic is accelerating in Africa. Spreading to rural villages after travelers brought it to the cities in an announcement on Thursday.

The Body insisted that the virus hasn’t caused infections in Refugee camps in Africa and that no case of infection in large numbers has been unnoticed.

WHO’s Africa Regional Director, Matshidiso Moeti says 10 countries in Africa account for 75% of the 207,000 cases so far, she also added that South Africa accounts for a quarter of all Africa’s cases as the nation prepared to ease its lockdown.

She said: ” even though these cases in Africa account for less than 3% of the global total, it’s clear that the Pandemic is accelerating”.

” We believe that large numbers of severe cases and deaths are not being missed in Africa”

She urged that Africa still has a very young median population and point of early screening in airport thanks to the Ebola scare have been limiting numbers in Africa’s cases.

She added that Lockdowns and Market Closures have affected poorer Africans the most.

She said the reason why the disease was slow to spread is unclear, but could be linked with lower numbers of International travellers arriving and other factors like weather and demographics.
