Leicester Target Leeds Star Philips As Replacement For Ndidi

Leicester City are ‘monitoring’ Leeds star Kalvin Phillips in case they need to mitigate for the departure of Wilfred Ndidi.

With Arsenal and Manchester United reportedly pursuing the midfield linchpin, the Nigerian could exit the King Power and leave Leicester with a pretty big hole to fill in the middle of the park.

Ndidi recently dismissed rumours he could leave the Foxes in the summer, claiming he was happy and wanted to remain a Leicester player, but money talks and if the club receives an astronomical offer, they could decide to cash in.

Leicester City understandably do not want to be caught short, and according to Bleacher Reports, the club has identified Leeds’ Kalvin Phillips as a potential replacement and are ‘monitoring’ him.

Phillips has been in fine form for the Championship leaders this season, but with the Yorkshire club valuing him at around £20m, the Foxes are tempted to bring him to Leicester in a low-risk, potentially high-reward scenario.

Now Phillips’ move could all come down to whether Leeds are promoted to the Premier League by the end of the season. If the Whites return to the top flight of English football, Phillips could stay at the club for at least another season with Leeds demanding a pretty large fee for the Englishman.

But if Leeds once again fail to land that all important promotion to the promised land, the financial repercussions of another season in the Championship may force the club to offload some key players. Phillips is undoubtedly one of Leeds‘ prize financial assets and is understandably a player they will have to consider selling.

Despite interest last summer from a number of Premier League clubs, Phillips signed a new £20,000-a-week contract at Elland Road last September.

However, if the club fail to make it to the Premier League this summer, the 24-year old may be forced to think about life outside of Yorkshire if he’s hoping to make Gareth Southgate’s England squad anytime soon.
