Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has revealed how he discovered he had contracted coronavirus and how long it took him to start feeling better.
Arteta announced that he had tested positive for COVID-19 on March 12, with the Arsenal squad going into precautionary self-isolation as a result.
Arsenal’s match against Manchester City was postponed after the club announced that several players and staff had come in contact with Olympiakos owner Evangelos Marinakis, who had also tested positive for the coronavirus.
And Arteta explained that it took three or four days from being diagnosed until he began to feel himself once again.
“I’m very well now, I feel that I have recovered,” Arteta, speaking from his home in London, told La Sexta on Spanish TV.
“I’m very well now. I feel that I have recovered. It took me three or four days to start feeling better & with more energy, to leave the symptoms behind & now, the truth is that I feel very well.
“On Tuesday afternoon, I was feeling so-so & I went to see the doctor but he wasn’t there.
“I got a call from the board after training while I was in my car & they told me that the president of Olympiakos had tested positive & everyone had been in contact was at risk.

“I went on to tell them that I wasn’t feeling well & that we had a situation because we had lots of players that had been in contact with them [Olympiakos].
“We had a game against Manchester City in the next few days & we couldn’t put lots of people at risk without saying anything.
“I had the test done last Wednesday & I was diagnosed on Friday, when we had to communicate it to the Premier League that I had tested positive.
“Obviously all those that had been in contact with me had to go into quarantine & consequently, games had to be suspended.”
The Premier League season was suspended until at least April 3 due to the coronavirus pandemic. That has since been extended until the end of April.
