Victor Ezuruike has poured cold water on the allegation that he snatched Rivers United club bus keys at gunpoint, insisting that the report was a sheer falsehood, Completesports.com reports.
Ezuruike says the Port Harcourt club are indebted to him to the tune of N6.6m, being his unpaid contractual entitlements during his three year contract with the club.
‘Terminator’, as the former centre-back is fondly called, was captain of Heartland of Owerri in 2009 when the Naze Millionaires reached the CAF Champions League, but his own goal in Point Noir, DR Congo, cost the Nigerian club the trophy as the Congolese won on away goal rule after a 2-2 aggregate draw over the two legs.
On Sunday at the Okigwe Township Stadium, a statement credited to the Rivers United’s media department alleged that Ezuruike snatched the club’s bus keys on gunpoint.
Rivers United had traveled to Okigwe for a Nigeria Professional Football League matchday 22 fixture against Heartland when the incident occurred.
But the 34-year-old now explains that he did not ‘snatch’ the bus keys at ‘gunpoint’ as alleged by the Garden City club.
“I signed a three year contract with Rivers United in 2015,” Ezuruike told Completesports.com on phone.

“The contract was to end in 2017, but they terminated it in 2016 after two years and have refused to pay.
“The total amount they are owing me is N6.6m. I have written to NFF and the League Management Company (LMC) [copies made available to Completesports.com], but till date, the club has refused to pay me.
“So on Sunday, at the Okigwe Stadium, I got angry and that was in the presence of even the stadium police security personnel who later pleaded for me to return the keys which I obliged so that we can settle the matter amicably.
“But unfortunately, when the match ended, they drove off without recourse to our planned settlement agreement,” a disappointed Ezuruike explained.
