Trabzonspor Condemn Racist Attacks on Mikel by Fenerbahce Captain, Fans

Trabzonspor have condemned racist attacks on John Mikel Obi during last Saturday’s Turkish Super Lig clash against Fenerbahce, Completesports.com reports.

The hosts rallied back from a goal down to beat Fenerbahce 2-1 in a tensed encounter at the Medical Park Stadium.

Mikel , who featured for 90 minutes had a bitter exchange with Fenerbahce captain Emre Belozoglu at the end of the game.

The duo were separated by team members and Emre was alleged to have made racist comments against the former Nigeria captain.

Some Fenerbahce fans also made derogatory comments on the social media against Mikel and his family after the game.

“Racism is a shelter for helpless and ignorant. We condemn the racist attacks against our player Obi Mikel after the match against Fenerbahçe and we bring to the public attention that a criminal complaint has been filed against the assailants. #WeStandwithObi #SayNoToRacism,” reads a tweet on Trabzonspor’s Twitter handle.
