Anthony Joshua has dismissed Andy Ruiz Jr’s excuse that he had spent three months partying after his victory in Madison Square Garden back in June.

The Brit challenger was fully focused before he executed his gameplan to the letter in Saudi Arabia, regaining his WBA, WBO, IBF, IBO world heavyweight titles after a unanimous points victory.

Joshua had vowed to be better second time around, while Ruiz was confident he could emerge victorious for a second time.

But the Mexican-American admits he got carried away with his new-found fame after the first bout.

Joshua, however, doesn’t have any sympathy for Ruiz after their second fight ended in very different fashion.

“I would love to have trained the way Andy trained. I would have loved to have trained that way,” he told ITV’s Good Morning Britain.

“But in reality that’s not the way of a champion.

“Andy can say all these things but he knew he had a fight and he knew the best way to prepare.

“Unfortunately, it didn’t go his way and I’m sure he can make those changes.

“As I said; learning, life lessons come in different forms and Andy’s was in the form of a loss as well.

“He knows his mistakes, whatever they were or whether they’re excuses or not, he just has to go out there and get it right.”
