Today (Sunday) marks the first of Mikel Arteta and his team’s seven remaining tests. Fifth-place Aston Villa will be making their Emirates Stadium debut, so it should be exciting. Villa also desperately needs points. They now hold a game in hand and are tied for fourth place with Tottenham Hotspur.

The issue facing Villa is that they performed horribly on defence in their last two league games. In their most recent two games against Brentford and Manchester City, the Unai Emery-led team conceded seven goals. The Villans’ home draw against the Bees the previous Saturday surprised them despite the odds being against them at Etihad Stadium.

When they played again in December of last year, Aston Villa surprised Arsenal. On that occasion, they earned a 1-0 victory in Birmingham. The bookies have Arsenal as strong favourites. They do have a terrific home record, and they can’t afford to lose ground to Liverpool, who are now leading the league table. The reason is both Aston Villa’s offensive ability and the fact that Arsenal just let two goals slip away in their home game against Bayern Munich on Tuesday night.
